About the Role
As an R&D Associate, you’ll work directly with some of the UK and Ireland’s most forward-thinking businesses to uncover how their innovations qualify for R&D tax relief. The role blends client-facing consultancy, analytical problem-solving, and the craft of turning complex technical work into clear financial and technical narratives.
You’ll be embedded in a high-performing team with genuine progression, mentorship, and exposure to a wide variety of industries from day one.
In This Role You Will
• Engage directly with clients to identify and assess innovative projects eligible for R&D tax relief across sectors including science, software, engineering, pharmaceuticals and more
• Draft financial reports and contribute to technical reports for submission to HMRC and Revenue, translating complex scientific and engineering activity into compelling narratives
• Support technical interviews and site visits with senior technical and financial stakeholders
• Collaborate with tax and technical specialists to build robust, defensible claims that exceed client expectations
• Manage client relationships end-to-end, communicate progress clearly, and use Salesforce for efficient project management
• Stay current on HMRC and Revenue guidance, emerging innovation trends, and R&D legislation
• Identify opportunities to maximise client claims and feed insights back to strengthen internal processes
What We’re Looking For
• A degree in finance, accountancy, or business management, with a genuine interest in technical, engineering, and scientific concepts
• Curiosity, analytical thinking, and a passion for problem-solving across both financial and technical contexts
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex detail without losing substance
• Methodical, organised, and detail-oriented approach to managing multiple workstreams
• Confidence representing the CBTax brand in client meetings and across diverse projects
